2014 was not a good year for Future, marred by a very public break-up with his former fiance and the mother of his son, Ciara. The rapper also did not receive the response he’d hoped for his album, Honest, which was released that same year. But he came back with a vengeance on his Drake collaboration What a Time to Be Alive, which topped the charts.

“I was one step away from being married, and I feel like I failed publicly in relationships,” the rapper said to Rolling Stone. “Then you want to go back to doing music, to what you know. And if people didn’t accept you again, the one thing you feel like you can fall back on, it walked away from you. You feel like it’s over.”

The rapper also lightly touched on the legal disputes between the two, expressing that he “didn’t know how to deal” with them and that all he really knows is what is recorded. He further released a well-wish to his ex, expressing that he is still “connected” to her and that he wants her to be happy and in the best situation for the benefit of their young son, also named Future.

In addition to the Drake collaboration, his solo releases, DS2 and Evol, also topped the charts, and he expressed that he would like to continue the trend.

“I want to keep doing what I’m doing and see how far I can go,” he said. “See when it stops. See what the end is like. I want to make this moment last as long as I can make it. If I miss a day, I’m afraid I’ll miss out on a smash record.”

In other news, the rapper is touring with Drake this summer and will be doing fan “Meet and Greets” for the Summer Sixteen Tour at each stop. For $500 fans will have the opportunity to meet him and other extensive prizes, including a single ticket in the first 15 rows, VIP early entry into the venue, a tour t-shirt, custom hat, custom socks, a bandana, a Freebandz pin set, a Freebandz patch, a Freebandz double cup, a surprise exclusive item and a laminate of the meet and greet photo.
