The American Music Awards have announced their 2016 nominees. Drake leads field with a historic 13 nominations, two greater than the mark set by Michael Jackson in 1984 with 11. Rihanna also leads the pack with seven nominations, while Justin Bieber and Adele rack up five a piece.
Others with multiple nominations include The Chainsmokers and Beyoncé with four each and twenty one pilots, The Weeknd, Fetty Wap, Carrie Underwood and Bryson Tiller all with three.
The Artist of the Year category is a crowded bunch of pop stars like Drake, Adele, Beyoncé, Selena Gomez, The Weeknd, twenty one pilots, Rihanna and others.
The new artists are ZAYN, DNCE, Shawn Mendes, The Chainsmokers and Alessia Cara.
Drake sets the record for most nominations after a year where he released several projects and broke streaming records. He scored nominations in collaboration of the year, artist of the year, favorite male artist, favorite album, favorite artist rap / hip-hop and many more.
