Kim Kardashian recently explained why she and Kanye West decided to hire a surrogate. The couple also corrected themselves and said that they did not hire a "surrogate" but a "gestational carrier."

On her website, the 37-year-old Keeping Up With the Kardashians star admitted that she and her husband explored various options before ultimately deciding to hire another woman to carry their child. Last year, Kardashian shared that she could no longer get pregnant because she was diagnosed with Preeclampsia and placenta accreta.

Surrogate vs. Gestational Carrier

The mom of three also explained that their child is biologically theirs since she implanted her fertilized egg into her gestational carrier. A surrogate typically donates her egg to a woman who wants to have a baby but could not get pregnant. However, that is not what Kardashian's "surrogate" did.

"Having a gestational carrier is definitely different, but anyone who says or thinks it's the easy way out is completely wrong. People assume it's better because you don't have to deal with the physical changes, pain or complications with delivery, but for me it was so hard not to carry my own child, especially after I carried North and Saint," wrote Kardashian.

In the past, the KUWTK star admitted that she's worried about not having a connection with her third child since she did not get pregnant with her. After her baby's birth, Kardashian was the first one to have skin to skin contact with her little one. The baby, whose name is still being kept under wraps, was delivered at Cedars-Sinai Hospital in Los Angeles on Monday, Jan. 15.

Gratitude Toward Her Gestational Carrier

Toward the end of her lengthy post, Kardashian expressed her love for her gestational carrier and said that she is grateful to her for giving them the greatest gift. Before her baby was born, rumors swirled that Kylie Jenner is her surrogate. However, it has been confirmed that the unnamed woman is from San Diego and not a member of the Kardashian-Jenner family.

Kardashian also clarified that she will not be naming her third child Louis Vuitton West. On Wednesday, Jan. 17, the KKW Beauty CEO shared a close up photo of the brand's logo, and fans speculated that this was her way of teasing her baby girl's name.

The reality TV star later on explained that she posted the photo of the brand's logo to pay tribute to Kim Jones, who ended his tenure as the lead menswear designer at Louis Vuitton. Jones worked for the company for seven years.
