Aj McLean signs with Country Music Association. McLean is part of the famous boy band Backstreet Boys.
A photo of McLean signing his CMA membership application on Wednesday, Feb. 28, was released days later. McLean has not yet opened up about his decision to be part of CMA, but Backstreet Boys collectively said that its upcoming album will feature some country songs.
"We cut some Nashville songs recently, and just yesterday I was in the vocal booth. So we're in the lab playing around, experimenting," said Kevin Richardson said.
Backstreet Boys previously collaborated with Florida Georgia Line in the song "God, Your Mama, And Me." The 90s boy band also joined the group in its Smooth tour last summer. The two groups also performed at last year's CMAs.
Backstreet Boys and Florida Georgia Line also teamed up for CMT's Crossroads last year. During their episode, the two bands performed each other's songs.
Who Is Backstreet Boys?
Backstreet Boys is an American vocal group formed in Orlando, Florida in 1993. The group is made up of McLean, Richardson, Howie D., Nick Carter, and Brian Littrell.
Throughout the span of its career, the band has already released eight studio albums, namely Backstreet's Back, Millennium, Black & Blue, This Is Us, Never Gone, Unbreakable, In A World Like This, and For the Fans.
Some of the group's most famous songs include "I Want It That Way," "As Long As You Love Me," "Larger Than Life," "Show Me the Meaning of Being Lonely," "Incomplete," "Quit Playing Games," "Shape of My Heart," "Everybody," "Drowning," "I'll Never Break Your Heart," "The Call," and more.
Joseph Kahn's Interview
Last year, Joseph Kahn, the director of the "Everybody (Backstreet's Back)" music video, opened up about the 90s hit on its 20th anniversary.
"This was 1997 - only five years after a race riot happened in Los Angeles and music was incredibly segregated. When I would do a rap video and cast six female dancers, they would go, 'We should put one white girl in there.' Or I would do gangster rap videos, and because those neighborhoods bordered Hispanics, they would go, 'We should put at least two Hispanic people in here to acknowledge that.' There were interesting interracial dynamics I was dealing with," said Kahn.
However, Kahn ended up having to work with five white guys who essentially danced like R&B stars. In the end, the director took inspiration from Michael Jackson, and the music video for "Everybody (Backstreet's Back)" became a massive hit.
