It looks like fans who are still hoping that Rihanna and Drake will eventually end up together are out of luck.

In her cover interview for Vogue, the Fenty Beauty founder gave an update about the status of her relationship with the Canadian rapper and she has some bad news. They are no longer friends.

"We don't have a friendship now, but we're not enemies either," Rihanna told the publication. "It is what it is."

Rihanna And Drake's Relationship Timeline

Rumors about a romance started back in 2009 shortly after Rihanna broke up with her longtime boyfriend Chris Brown. Billboard recalls that the two were spotted in public, dining out in New York City, and kissing.

However, a few months later, the Ocean's 8 star went on record and insisted that she and the "Nice For What" rapper are still just friends.

At some point, Drake dissed his relationship with Rihanna and said that he felt she was not as into him. In an interview with The New York Times, he even said that he was her "pawn," but later retracted the statement.

Over the years, the two have collaborated multiple times to create chart-topping new music. They reunite in 2010 for the song "What's My Name," in 2011 for "Take Care," and, finally, in 2016 for "Work."

That same year, Drake presented Rihanna the Michael Jackson Vanguard Award, the equivalent to a lifetime's achievement award, at the 2016 MTV Video Music Awards. The 31-year-old showered the singer with compliments and even professed his undying love for her. However, when he came in for a kiss, Rihanna swerved and instead gave him a hug. Some fans swore that the Barbadian star reprimanded her on-and-off beau.

The two seemingly got back together after the awards night and, in a live performance of "Work" in a concert in Miami, Rihanna even gave Drake a kiss on the lips onstage.

A few months later, their relationship soured again. Reports revealed that Drake has started seeing Jennifer Lopez.

When the two had a run-in at a children's birthday party in April, the stars stayed at the opposite sides of the room.

Rihanna Talks 9th Album

In the same conversation with Vogue, Rihanna revealed a crucial new detail about her upcoming album: she is exploring reggae. The "Rude Boy" singer, who continues to dominate the chart despite not having a new album in the past year, did not name collaborators but said that the music was influenced by Supa Dups, a record producer from Jamaica.

Supa Dups previously worked with the likes of Beenie Man, Sean Paul, and Elephant Man.

Previous reports revealed that Rihanna might be working on two albums: one will be filled with pop songs and one that will purely be experimental. No release date has been announced as of this writing.
