Kendrick Lamar reaches a new milestone in his music career. Each of the songs in the singer's album DAMN. is certified platinum.
The Recording Industry Association of America confirmed that as of May 25, all 14 tracks in Lamar's album have received 1 million equivalent song units earned in the United States.
One equivalent song unit equates to one digital song sale or 150 on-demand audio and/or video streams. In 2016, the RIAA revamped its Gold and Platinum Awards program to include tracks and streams.
DAMN. was released on April 14, 2017. The songs featured in the compilation are "BLOOD.," "DNA. [Explicit]," "YAH.," "ELEMENT.," "FEEL.," "LOYALTY.," "PRIDE.," "HUMBLE.," "LUST.," "LOVE. [Explicit]," "XXX.," "FEAR.," "GOD.," and "DUCKWORTH."
"HUMBLE." has been named as the most sold song from Lamar's album, and it has gone seven times platinum. "LOVE" lags closely behind the track with four times platinum. "DNA." received three times platinum.
Two months ago, Lamar also received the 2018 Pulitzer Prize in Music for DAMN. His compilation served as the first hip-hop record to win the award.
Kendrick Lamar Talks About Latest Album
Following the release of his album, Lamar shared his goal for DAMN. and said that he wanted to put several different words and messages in his songs so that fans would listen to them for as long as possible. He also differentiated DAMN. from To Pimp A Butterfly.
"TPAB [was] the idea of changing the world and how we approach things. DAMN. [is] the idea of: 'I can't change the world until I change myself.' So when you listen to records like 'PRIDE.,' 'HUMBLE.,' 'LUST.,' and 'LOVE.,' these are all just human emotions and me looking in the mirror and coming to grips with them," said Lamar.
During the same interview, the 30-year-old American rapper and songwriter also said that he avoids social media discussions about his albums and songs. He also called the internet a tricky place.
"The way our minds work and the psychological matter; we're only going to see the good things anyway. We're going to block out the negative things," explained Lamar.
