Because the 64th annual Grammy Awards have been postponed from January 31, 2022 to April 3, 2022, the CMT Awards, initially scheduled in April at the same network, CBS, will be forced to find another date.

However, this bump off is not unheard of as the 63rd Annual Grammy Awards managed to do the same thing last year, but for another award show.

The rescheduled 2021 Screen Actors Guild Awards

In December 2020, the Grammy Awards announced that they would be postponed from January 31, 2021, to March 14, 2021.

The new date puts the 2021 Grammy Awards on the same night as the Screen Actors Guild Awards, which had declared (and so more or less laid a claim to) that date six months earlier.

The SAG Awards were moved to April 4 as a result of the response.

Despite having a valid reason for the rescheduling, the Screen Actors Guild - American Federation of Television and Radio Artists, also known as SAG-AFTRA, is "unhappy" on the move.

In a press release of the SAG-AFTRA, which they issued an hour after the Grammy reschedule broke, they were "extremely disappointed" to hear of the conflicting schedules of the two major award-giving ceremonies.

They noted that they had announced the exact date for their award ceremony, intending to give the "greatest possible scheduling consideration" for other award shows.

The statement capped of with the federation bluntly saying that they "expect the same consideration" from sister organizations throughout the entertainment industry.

The 63rd annual Grammy Awards was postponed last year because of the surge of COVID-19 cases in Los Angeles.

The same goes with this year's sudden uptick of COVID-19 Omicron cases in the country; the 64th Annual Grammy Awards was rescheduled from January 2022 to April 2022.

The now-rescheduled 2022 CMT Music Awards

The CMT Music Awards, however, took the news better than the SAG-AFTRA last year.

Initially set on April 3, 2022, The CMT Music Awards gave its way for "Music's Biggest Night" to finally take place.

Jack Sussman, CBS' Vice President for Specials, Music, Live Events & Alternative Programming, said in a statement that they have come together "quickly" with their partners at the Recording Academy and CMT to "strategically reschedule" the two music events to utilize the full power of the ViacomCBS ecosystem.

Aside from the conflicting schedules, the Grammys is also making history.

It would be the first time they will hold the ceremony in Las Vegas, having only conducted it in Los Angeles, New York, and Nashville.
