Earlier this week (Jan. 21), the first wave of performers for the forthcoming 2022 Brit Awards was announced.

Ed Sheeran, Doja Cat, Dave, Holly Humberstone, Liam Gallagher, and Little Simz all set to perform at the event, which will take place on Feb. 8 at London's O2 Arena.

Health protocols in place

Exhibition organizers stated in a statement that they are working "around the clock" to put together a show that would exceed all applicable safety requirements due to the continuous spread of the highly transmissible Omicron variant of the virus.

After demonstrating a negative LFT (lateral flow test) upon arrival at the site, artists, nominees, and all other guests will be assigned stall seats on the arena floor, with nominated artists situated in an exclusive, distant section.

Though not socially distanced, audience members will be requested to wear masks when not eating, drinking, or sitting in their seats throughout the performance.

International audiences will also be able to watch the performances in real-time, along with the red carpet and backstage video, through a Livestream provided by BBC Worldwide.

British Prime Minister Boris Johnson announced earlier this week that face masks will no longer be required in public places and schools and that COVID passports will no longer be required for huge events.

Coincidentally, COVID numbers have slowly declined after spiking again during the Omicron outbreak.

However, the country is still experiencing around 100,000 new cases per day.

The nominees

Simz has maneged to snag four nominations this year, while Doja Cat - whose performance will be her first in the United Kingdom - has two nominations.

British Comedian Mo Giligan will host this year's awards ceremony, presented by The British Phonographic Industry (BPI).

This year was the first time that the BRIT Awards combined distinct male and female categories in both artist of the year and international artist categories.

In turn, female musicians dominated the major award nominations.

Adele and Little Simz took two of the five "Artist of the Year" slots. For the International Artist of the Year, Billie Eilish, Doja Cat, Olivia Rodrigo and Taylor Swift took four out the five spots.

Eilish has received a BRIT Award as the Female International Artist for the past two years in a row, while Taylor Swift was honored with a Global Icon Award the previous year.
