Happy Birthday Da Brat!

Shawntae Harris, better known as Da Brat, is a rapper from the United States and one of a slew of female rappers who broke through in the mid-'90s. Female rappers at the time can be considered quite rare, which makes her success all the more remarkable to detail. She was pre-Nicki Minaj era, so to say.

Age, Background, Education

It was on April 14, 1974 when Shawntae Harris was born in the city of Joliet in Illinois. For the most of her childhood, she lived on the city's West Side. David Ray McCoy, an entrepreneur, is Da Brat's father, and Nadine Brewer, a former bus driver, is her mother.

Da Brat was raised in two different families because her parents never married. She became interested in music at an early age and began singing in the church choir while attending services. When she was in high school, she attended Kenwood Academy.

She also competed in track and field events, as well as in basketball. As of 1992, she has completed the Academy of Scholastic Achievement's graduation requirements.

Da Brat Net Worth 2022

Da Brat's net worth is estimated to be about $1 million as of 2022. Album sales, tours, and other live performances have all brought in a substantial sum of money for her. Da Brat earns $40,000 a month.

Along with her acting work in TV shows and movies, she is also a singer and songwriter, and has released two albums. Over the course of the year, Da Brat makes more than $200,000.

In 1992, Da Brat launched her music career by winning a rap competition sponsored by YO! MTV Raps, which launched her into the music industry. Jermaine Dupri, the music producer of Kris Kross, was introduced to her after she won a local contest owing to the fledgling rap pair. Later, an opportunity arose for Da Brat to sign with 'So So Def Label,' a record label owned by the producer.

'Fundafied' and Record-Breaking Success

When she became the first woman to record a platinum-certified album, this boosted her net worth significantly. After the release of her debut album, "Funkdafied," Da Brat became a household name in the music industry.

Consequently, Da Brat received two Grammy nominations and two top ten Billboard Hot 100 songs following the publication of this album. Many of her songs have become hits, and she's made a name for herself in the music industry.

Collabs and Remixes

Da Brat's debut studio album, "Funkdafied," was a huge smash and went platinum shortly after its release in 1994. Brat became the first female solo rapper to sell a million copies.

'Funkdafied', the album's lead single, climbed to number six on the Billboard Hot 100 rap charts. 'Anuthatantrum', her second studio album, was released in 1994.

T-Boz of TLC appeared on the song "Ghetto Love," which became a hit once it was featured on the album.

Mariah Carey's "Always Be My Baby" and "Honey" were both remixed by her, and she also collaborated with other well-known performers. Her third studio album 'Unrestricted' was released on April 11, 2000.

In the summer of 2003, she dropped her fourth studio album, "Limelite, Luv & Niteclubz."

"I Think They Like Me," "In Love wit Chu," and "Loverboy" are some of Brat's most popular songs.

Despite all of this, the rapper has also appeared in films and television shows as well.
