Lady Gaga and Tom Cruise were spotted together in Las Vegas following one of her performances, and their connection is generating quite a stir.

The 36-year-old pop sensation released a behind-the-scenes photo of herself embracing the 59-year-old actor. "We appreciate your attendance at last night's show. "Thank you for coming to the show last night. I love you my friend @tomcruise," Gaga wrote underneath a snap of her kissing Cruise.

The two spending time together follows the announcement that the "Bad Romance" singer will perform the lead song on the "Top Gun: Maverick" album.

Gaga revealed in an emotional Instagram post that she spent "years" working on the song "Hold My Hand" for the film.

"I'm so grateful to Tom [Cruise] and Hans [Zimmer] and Joe [Kosinski] for this opportunity-and it's been a beautiful experience working with them.," she said.

The pair's outing created quite a sensation on social media, with numerous Scientology detractors tearing Gaga to bits. Cruise has been a devout member of the church for decades and is regarded as one of its most renowned adherents.

Over the years, the church has faced horrendous abuse allegations from former members and has been the focus of numerous documentaries and feature films - allegations that the church and current members have categorically rejected.

Regardless, Gaga's new "buddy" is causing consternation among some.  Some expressed how disappointed they are that Lady Gaga is in a way openly endorsing Tom Cruise, who has caused so much pain to so many people as a result of Scientology. "Big oof and lots of questions now about what she stands for," wrote one fan.

Another requested that Gaga view "a couple of the numerous documentaries about Scientology." The follower advised the singer to conduct study.

Some wrote that Lady Gaga is better than this. By being with Cruise, she is sympathy for such a heinous human being, they wrote.

One admirer inquired as to if Gaga had become a member of the religion, while another wrote, "Saw a picture Lady Gaga posted with Tom Cruise and it makes me scared for her. Scientology would love that."

The Church of Scientology has been making headlines recently, with actress Elisabeth Moss endorsing the faith in a recent interview and another member, Danny Masterson, defending himself against criminal charges.
