Jim Seals, a singer popularly known for being the songwriter and guitarist of the popular soft-rock duo Seals & Crofts, has passed away at the age of 80.

His cousin, Little Texas member Brady Seals, confirmed the tragic news on his Instagram account.

"I just learned that James "Jimmy" Seals has passed. My heart just breaks for his wife Ruby and their children. Please keep them in your prayers. What an incredible legacy he leaves behind," he wrote.

His family did not offer further details. As of this writing, his cause of death remains a mystery.

According to Deadline, the singer has been working in the music industry long before he teamed up with longtime bandmate Dash Crofts. The pair formed Seals & Croft in 1969.

They first met in local bands a decade prior they worked together. They later moved to Los Angeles, California to join the Champs.

During the 1960s, Seals, Crofts, Glen Campbell and another member left the band to form another group called "Glen Campbell and the GCs."

However, the band didn't last, leading the duo to return to Texas to launch their own band.

By the late 60s, the two returned to Los Angeles and signed a deal with Warner Brothers as a duo.

The two didn't have a perfect beginning in their careers as their 1969 debut album failed to dominate the charts.

Luckily for them, their sophomore and third record (Down Home and Year of Sunday) entered the Billboard 200 and Canada's top 100.

Their success started skyrocketing after that as their singles continued dominating the charts.

The 1972 song "Summer Breeze" managed to peaked at No. 6 on the Billboard Hot 100. The next song, called "Hummingbird," also entered the Top 20.

Their singles' success managed to push their album to No. 7. The record was certified gold by Christmas and has sold over 2 million units in the United States.

Jim Seals is the songwriter behind all of the track's lyrics.

Aside from the music mentioned above, the two were also popularly known for their tracks, "Diamond Girl," which peaked at No. 6, and "We May Never Pass This Way Again," which peaked at No. 21.

They dominated the Hollywood scene as their songs were used in numerous movies and television programs like "Licorice Pizza" and "Dazed and Confused."
