Taylor Swift was three years old when Lois Lowry’s young-adult novel The Giver was released in 1993. Actor Jeff Bridges has been trying to make the ensuing movie since 1995, when T-Swift was beginning kindergarten.

Finally, the release date is here. The Giver is in theaters Friday, and Swift—now 24—plays a small, pivotal character.

Late this week, Yahoo! posted an exclusive clip from the movie featuring Swift’s character, Rosemary. The movie takes place in a post-apocalyptic society that tells itself it’s a “utopia.” There are no negative aspects on the surface—war, violence, hatred and poverty have been extinguished—but the citizens have also shunned free will and the ability have feelings.

In the clip featuring Rosemary (Swift), The Giver (Bridges) shows Jonas (Brendan Thwaites) a memory of Rosemary teaching The Giver how to play piano. Jonas has been designated as the society’s next “Receiver of Memories,” which means he’ll be the only person from his generation to be able to see what society looked like before the world drastically changed.

This week on the Late Night With Jimmy Fallon, Bridges talked about jamming with Swift on the set of The Giver.

"Most of our scenes are on the piano," he revealed. "Between setups we broke out the gits [guitars]... We just jammed. It was wonderful."

Yahoo! notes that this is not Sweezy’s first acting turn. She made appearances on television’s CSI in 2009 and then a took a small role in 2010’s Valentine’s Day.

She’s also in the midst of promoting her fifth studio album, which is expected for November. Swift has already posted three clues as to when she might drop solid information on the follow-up to 2012's Red, which spawned smash hits such as “I Knew You Were Trouble” and “We Are Never Getting Back Together.”

Songwriter/producer Max Martin is expected to be working on “most of” the new album.
