Justice has come for Nicki Minaj. As the launch of her newest album "Freaky Girl" nears (August 12), the man responsible for the death of her father is sentenced to prison. It can be remembered that her father's passing in 2021 gutted the famous rapper.
Early in 2021, Nicki Minaj's father was killed in a hit-and-run, and the perpetrator has now been sentenced to one year in prison.
Wednesday morning in Nassau County, New York, Charles Polevich was sentenced by Judge Howard Sturiun, according to TMZ.
Polevich pleaded guilty to two felonies - leaving the scene of an accident without reporting it and tampering with physical evidence - and will now have his license banned for six months and pay a $5,000 fine.
The 72-year-old was facing up to seven years in prison, but the judge stayed true to his word and sentenced Polevich to one year in prison.
Robert Maraj was struck by a vehicle while walking northbound between Roslyn Road and Raff Avenue on Long Island on February 12, 2021. He was brought to the hospital in serious condition, but his injuries proved fatal. Maraj had reached age 64. Nicki sent a homage to her late father on her website shortly after his death, describing it as the "most heartbreaking loss" of her life.

On August 12, the Queens rapper is scheduled to release her next track, "Freaky Girl." Nicki has assured her fans that on the single, she will channel the late funk icon Rick James.
Last month, she tweeted, "#NickJames is coming to do what the girls SHOULD'VE done."
She added, "#NickJames is coming to show the girls why they should've just sat there & ate their foods. #NickJames is coming to show the boys how to REALLY gag the girls. Pauz #NickJames is coming to restore hope in mankind."
The release of "Freaky Girl" will add to the onslaught of tracks Nicki has released since the beginning of the year, when she released "Do We Have A Problem?" and "Bussin" with Lil Baby, as well as her collaborations with Fivio Foreign and HipHopDX's 2022 Rising Star Coi Leray.
The sentencing of Polevich is one less burden for Nicki Minaj to stress over before she focuses all her energy to her newest album.
Polevich fled the scene and ultimately surrendered to the Nassau County Police three days later, after law enforcement discovered the suspect vehicle in a detached garage with altered look.
Tho I can't really bring myself to discuss the passing of my father as yet," she wrote. "I can say it has been the most devastating loss of my life."
In May of last year, Nicki Minaj paid another tribute to her father on Instagram on what would have been his 65th birthday.
"Happy Birthday Daddy," she wrote. "Miss u so much. So much. So so much. Rest In Peace. Oh my God."
Meanwhile, as the release of her album approaches, she must also contend with "stupid" speculations.
"Every day I learn that y'all getting dumber and f-king dumber," this is the harsh reply that Minaj posted on her social media in reply.
On August 1, the Shade Room published screenshots from the Instagram account @katemiller 7, whose bio said she is an executive at Republic Records, Minaj's record label. The photo linked to the account is identified as that of author Megan Feldman Bettencourt, who does not appear to be involved in the incident.
On her now-deleted Instagram account, katemiller 7 posted numerous allegations, including allegations of abuse against Minaj's husband, Kenneth Petty, the name of Minaj's son (which the performer has kept private), and allegations of fraud against Minaj, stating, "I have your tax refunds from 2021. When are we gonna tell the Barbz you've owed the IRS 173 million since 2016? Renting homes is always the go to for the Minaj residence."
