Dr. Dre spoke candidly about his near-death experience a year ago.

In January 2021, Dr. Dre's family received a heartbreaking call asking them to say goodbye to the rapper as his doctors did not think he would survive his brain aneurysm. But he, fortunately, survived the near-death experience.

The rapper detailed what happened on the "Workout the Doubt" podcast and revealed how close he was to death.

"I'm at Cedars-Sinai hospital and they weren't allowing anybody to come up, meaning visitors or family or anything like that, because of COVID, but they allowed my family to come in. I found out later, they called them up so they could say their last goodbyes because they thought I was outta here," he said, as quoted by Deadline.

Dr. Dre added that he had no idea how serious his status was when he visited the hospital that month. He only found out that there was something life-threatening happening in his brain that the medical staff had to wake him up every hour for two weeks to conduct tests.

As he spent his two weeks doing that routine, the rapper said he was hungry and exhausted because of what happened.

According to the American Heart Association, an aneurysm occurs when an artery wall becomes weaker and widens. People can face the dreaded disease if they have a family history of it or if they have high cholesterol and high blood pressure.

Despite the alarming effects of the disease, Dr. Dre said he never felt like he was in trouble. Although his family bid goodbye to him because of his low chance of survival, the rapper felt no worry at all and was ready to go home instead.

Dr. Dre's Hospitalization

When he was discharged from the hospital last year, he gave his fans good news through an Instagram post.

"Thanks to my family, friends and fans for their interest and well wishes. I'm doing great and getting excellent care from my medical team. I will be out of the hospital and back home soon. Shout out to all the great medical professionals at Cedars. One Love!!" he said.

Amid his health scare at that time, he also dealt with damaging allegations from Nicole Young, who claimed he abused her for years. She alleged that the rapper abused her verbally and emotionally, causing her to suffer from post-traumatic stress syndrome.

She added that the other instances of abuse include the hip-hop star reportedly punching her head and face in 1999 and 2000, and kicking down a door in 2016.
