Rapper Patrick Wayne Stay (Pat Stay) became the latest hip-hop artist to die after a crime occurred. He was only 36.

A news outlet first reported Stay's death, saying he passed away following a stabbing incident in Nova Scotia, Canada. It quoted the initial report published by CBC News.

The Halifax Regional Police did not name the victim of the incident, but the rapper's brother told the latter news outlet that Stay was the victim of the fatal stabbing.

According to the police, the event happened around 12:36 a.m., AT, in the 1600 block of Lower Water Street. They received a tip regarding an injured man after he was stabbed.

The responders were still able to rush Stay to a nearby hospital, but he later succumbed.

"Police located a male on the scene suffering from injuries consistent with being the victim of a stabbing. Victim was transported to the hospital for treatment where he was later pronounced deceased," the official press release said.

The authorities also conducted a preliminary investigation and assured the public that there was no immediate threat related to the incident.

As of press time, Halifax Regional Police spokesperson Const. John MacLeod still has not released any details about the crime. They are yet to identify what led to the stabbing or if someone witnessed it.

No arrests have been made yet.

After the rapper's tragic passing, his fans took their time to pay tribute to him while praying that the culprit would be arrested soon.

Stay, before his death, was famous in the global battle rap circuit. He conquered the spotlight more when he won a rap battle against a hip-hop superstar.

He then continued working on his style to participate in rap battles, leading him to earn praises from Drake when he released his most recent track two days before his tragic death. Quotes by Joe Budden and Method Man also made it to the video.

The diss track, titled "Warm Up," already has over 100,000 views as of press time.

Stay created the song in response to a California rapper who tried to provoke Eminem into a rhyme battle with his hit track "The Black Slim Shady."
