Taylor Swift explains that the red scarf in 'All Too Well' is a metaphor, and not really about Jake Gyllenhaal. It can be remembered though that the scarf was the main clue for fans to say she was singing about her past relationship with the actor.

The 32-year-old pop starlet released the song and its accompanying 10-minute short film at the end of 2021, sparking rumors that the "red scarf" she sings about was still in the possession of her ex-boyfriend Jake Gyllenhaal.

However, she has since admitted that the scarf was merely a storytelling device, with the color chosen based on the name of her parent album.

She revealed whiile onstage during the Toronto International Film Festival: "The scarf is essentially a metaphor, and we made it red since red is a prominent color on this album, which is titled 'Red'. And when I say it's a metaphor, I'm going to stop talking!"

If this is enough to dispel rumors that she was singing about Gyllenhaal remains to be seen.

Fans strongly believe that the 'Shake It Off' singer is referring to the "Brokeback Mountain" actor, whom she dated from October 2010 to January 2011, and his sister Maggie, in the song's lyrics.

On the track, Taylor sings: "I walked through the door with you, the air was cold. But something about it felt like home somehow. And I left my scarf there at your sister's house. And you've still got it in your drawer even now."

The sister has since already spoke up, since she's being dragged into the issue. She admitted tthat she "never understood" what the scarf was about or why she was frequently questioned about it. She said: "I never understood why everybody asked me about this scarf. I am in the dark about the scarf. It's totally possible. I don't know. I have been asked this before!"

Jake Gyllenhaal also already expressed his opinions on Taylor Swift's song "All Too Well" even if he said too that he has never listened to the song. The actor does not believe that the song supposedly revealed Swift's side of the couple's tumultuous dating history between October and December 2010.

He said "It has nothing to do with me; it's about her relationship with her followers. He told Esquire that artists use personal situations as inspiration, and eh cannot find anything wrong with that. Gyllenhaal further stated that during the re-release of the song, individuals used the internet to attempt to scare him, but despite blocking comments on his Instagram postings, this did not make him agitated.
