Years after "Misery Business" got "canceled" and faced criticisms from online users, Paramore finally performed the track four years after for their fans' delight; what made the band sing the song again despite its backlash?

According to Hypebae, frontwoman Hayley Williams announced in 2018 that they will no longer perform the track at their shows after it received negative feedback from fans, saying it contained misogynist lyrics.

The group recently performed in Bakersfield and fans were shocked upon hearing the song again. The vocalist said they will retire the song "for a little while" and they "technically did."

"But what we did not know was that just about five minutes after I got canceled for saying the word 'w****' in a song, all of TikTok decided that it was ok. Make it make sense," she added.

In early reports, "Misery Business" was one of Paramore's biggest singles from their sophomore album "Riot!" However, in a 2018 show in Nashville, Tennessee, Williams announced that they will stop performing the song.

"Tonight we're playing this song for the last time for a really long time," she said at the time. (via BuzzFeed)

She added that they made the big choice because the band feels they should and it's "time to move away from it for a while."

The lyric in question reads: "Once a w****, you're nothing more/ I'm sorry, that will never change."

Hayley Williams Addresses 'Misery Business' Controversy

In a 2015 Tumblr post, the frontwoman addressed the controversy by saying the lyrics of "Misery Business" don't have a significant impact to her in recent years as she wrote the song in 2015.

She clarified that she doesn't relate to it anymore and admitted that the song was from a "very narrow-minded perspective" because it was not meant to be a "philosophical statement" about anything.

Williams then noted that she's not ashamed of herself for being an open diary as a successful musician because she's thankful for all of her experiences that shaped her to be a happy person.

Concluding her post, the singer said she's a "proud feminist" but not a "perfect one."

The latest performance comes a few days after Hayley Williams finally confirmed her romantic relationship with bandmate Taylor York to The Guardian after two years of speculations from the public. However, the singer refused to give more details about their connection.
