Chris Brown was excited to show the entire world what he has been working so hard for ahead of his American Music Awards appearance, but before he could even set foot onstage, they took him out of the lineup.

Hours before the AMAs went live, fans noticed that the lineup lacked one performance. According to reports, the AMAs took Brown out of this year's lineup last minute, and without much of an explanation, too.

Brown took to Instagram to air out his frustrations on what happened, posting a clip of him rehearsing for his award show performance. He captioned it, "U serious? [sic]"

"Would've been the AMA performance but they canceled me for reasons unknown," he continued in the comments.

Aside from performing his own song, "Under The Influence," the singer had also planned to pay tribute to the King of Pop, Michael Jackson. The music was a remix of his own song, which transitioned to "Beat It," "Wanna Be Startin' Somethin'," and 'Thriller."

This is not Brown's first time paying tribute to Jackson, as he had done so in the past, like at the BET Awards in 2010, a year after Jackson's passing, reports say.

Disappointment

The sudden cancelation left fans and other artists devastated and disappointed.

They called out the award show for doing both Brown and Jackson dirty: "stop playing wit Chris Brown bru, [sic]" wrote fellow R&B singer Jacquees.

Among the people who took the cancelation to heart was rapper Jermaine Dupri, who explained why the cancelation was a deep cut.

"If the American Music Awards canceled the Chris Brown performance," the rapper said in an Instagram post. "Then that means they canceled the 40th anniversary of Thriller. Which means they canceled the Michael Jackson tribute. Black Music, we in trouble."

"Thriller" is Jackson's sixth studio album, and it marked a pivotal change in his genre of music. The album is a mix of pop, rock, funk, and R&B.

The monumental album included hit songs like "Thriller," "Beat It," "P.Y.T. (Pretty Young Thing)," "Wanna Be Startin' Somethin'," and "The Girl Is Mine," which features Paul McCartney.
