Christmas Time is an especially difficult holiday to be apart from one's family. Like Thanksgiving, Christmas is a holiday that many expect to be at home, eating dinner, opening presents, and spending the winter time with their loved ones.

For those who are in jail, that possibility might be a long shot.

But thanks to rap legend Meek Mill, he made sure that he shares the holiday spirit by making a big move for these people who are locked up behind bars.

Meek Mill has been an advocate for justice reform. His nonprofit organization, REFORM Alliance, made a big move this holiday season by giving a chance to 20 women incarcerated at Philadelphia's Riverside Correctional Facility to be at home with their families for Christmas.

"The women, who were unable to afford bail, will now be able to spend the holiday season with their families and loved ones," an Instagram post from the organization said. "Five women were released today and will be reunited with their families, with the goal of 15 more women being released in the coming week. The women will also each receive a gift card to purchase groceries or gifts for the holidays."

In a separate statement, the "Amen" hitmaker pens a poignant message for the impacted families of the criminal justice system.

Noting that the holidays are "an extremely challenging time," Meek reveals his Christmas wish.

"No one should have to spend the holidays in jail simply because they can't afford bail, and no child should be without their parents during this time if we can do something about it. I'm grateful for the opportunity to help these women be with their families and loved ones during this special time of year," he said.

In 2017, Meek Mill was infamously sentenced to two to four years in prison because he was proven to have violated his parole conditions.

Two years later, the rap icon told his grueling journey and battle against the criminal justice system in "Free Meek." Jay-Z, the two became executive producers of the show, as they shared convictions on the same causes.

Meek and Jay-Z are both founders of REFORM Alliance, a non-profit dedicated to parole, probation, and justice reform in the United States.
