Tory Lanez challenges the jurors' ruling in the Megan Thee Stallion shooting case.

Lanez, who is facing more than 20 years imprisonment, was found guilty of felony and weapons charges related to the shooting incident involving Megan Thee Stallion. The female rapper accused him of shooting her on the feet after they left a pool party in 2020.

The male rapper - whose real name is Daystar Shemuel Shua Peterson - and his team did not release further statements after the verdict was read out at that time, leaving the public clueless about whether he would appeal.

Months after the verdict, Lanez prompted a motion in pursuit of having a new trial.

Tory Lanez Says Jurors' Ruling Was Erroneous

A news outlet first reported the appeal, with Rolling Stone sharing further details about Lanez's filing.

The 30-year-old "Broke In a Minute" rapper's lawyers Jose Baez and Matthew Barhoma filed the paperwork Wednesday in which they claimed the judge "erroneously allowed" jurors to see a September 2020 Instagram post.

The post in question shows the rapper allegedly replied to a fan who asked whether Megan Thee Stallion's now-estranged best friend, Kelsey Harris, shot her. The Shade Room shared a screenshot of the comment, showing the rapper's "that's not true" reply to the comment that said, "People saying Kelsey shot her."

According to the filing, Lanez's content creator, Joshua Farias, admitted that he was the one managing the Instagram page. He added that he was the one who replied to the comment.

Lanez's lawyers accused the prosecutors of ambushing them with the post amid the trial. The male rapper has been insisting that it was Harris who shot Megan Thee Stallion - but both of them denied it in their respective trial testimonies.

"The court erred on numerous questions of law in allowing the People to introduce this post, depriving the defendant of a fair trial," the filing reads. "The only acceptable remedy for this miscarriage of justice is a new trial."

Tory Lanez's Representatives Say A Photo Was Used as Irrelevant Evidence

Elsewhere in the filing, the lawyers explained that the prosecution used irrelevant evidence when the prosecutors submitted a shirtless photo of Lanez. One of his tattoos is a firearm.

Per the lawyers, the jury used it to support its allegation that Lanez is fond of weapons.

Lanez is set to be sentenced in April.
