Jack Harlow has been making quite a buzz in the HipHop scene for quite a while already. From releasing bop after bop and becoming one of the most promising rappers today, many would expect that Harlow is enjoying his stay in music.

However, a recent interview revealed that the "First Class" singer seemed to be confined by the limitations that his genre sets out. As he takes a backseat in rapping and music, Harlow delved into acting. He now stars in the reboot of "White Men Can't Jump."

Jack Harlow Tries Acting

Jack Harlow, known for his songs like "Industry Baby" and "First Class," opened up about his thoughts on switching industries during the Question and Answer portion of the screening of "White Men Can't Jump" on May 15, 2023.

Musicians, singers, and even rappers have crossed the bridge from music to acting. Take for example Ice-T, Ice Cube, Will Smith, Common, Ludacris, Machine Gun Kelly, Mark Wahlberg, and even Donald Glover - the list goes on.

For Harlow, he wanted to make acting "more than just a side hustle."

"Through this film I was able to gain my confidence as an actor, and to me, this s--- is not a side quest," he told the press. "This isn't a side mission that I'm tacking on just to keep the entertainer thing going and make some extra money."

The 25-year-old actor-singer said that he really "got the bug" and fell in love with acting, as he is developing a "deep passion" for the said craft the same way he had in making music.

"I don't want it to be a side hustle, I want to full-on go after this, and I'm going after it and I'm going to continue to do more," he added.

Jack Harlow Feels Like A 'Guest' In HipHop

Elaborating more on his lightbulb moment, Harlow emphasized that he considers himself an "authentic artist" but sees a sliver of a problem in his current predicament:

"I tell the truth on the mic, but maybe sometimes I feel some slight constraints in hip-hop because there's a tradition to it and I know I'm a guest in the genre."

Being a White person in a predominantly Black community and genre, Harlow seemed to have suggested that these "things" go through his head often.

"But with acting I feel liberated to some degree - I feel like I could show up and I could be whoever I want to be today. I don't know, I feel freedom," he confessed.

"White Men Can't Jump" stars Jack Harlow, Sinqua Walls, and Teyana Taylor. It will be released on Friday, May 19, 2023.
