Taylor Lautner recently went viral on social media over the past few days after saying that he would be "praying" for John Mayer as Taylor Swift gears up for the re-release of her album "Speak Now."

More recently, the "Twilight" actor clarified his comments, saying it was only a joke.

Speaking with SiriusXM's "The Happy Hour," the actor addressed his comments on Today.com about the pop star's upcoming record, saying he thinks it's "a great" record and he feels "safe."

The main reason why he said that was because Swift's track "Back to December" was allegedly about her relationship with him.

Lautner then added that he would be "praying" for John Mayer as the song "Dear John" has very critical lyrics that are allegedly about him.

Taylor Lautner Says 'Praying' Comments About John Mayer Were Only a Joke

More recently, the actor defended himself, saying, "I don't know if it was the wisest thing to say... I was definitely joking."

He also revealed that his wife, Taylor Dome, knew that his comments could potentially stir something within the Swiftie community.

"She's like, that's gonna really trigger the Swifties. Or, I mean, they're supportive of it because, I mean, I don't know. I personally think John is a very talented musician, but I am aware of a couple songs that were on that album," he added.

Lautner doubled down his joke by later taking to TikTok to share a video of himself kneeling down and clasping his hands as he pray for John Mayer while the song "Dear John" plays in the background.

Taylor Swift 'Speak Now (Taylor's Version)'
