In the past few weeks, Matty Healy has been the subject of controversy because of his previous statements against female rapper Ice Spice. The 23-year-old rapper is now the recent collaborator of Healy's rumored girlfriend, Taylor Swift.

Because of the coincidence of such situations, many seemed to believe that Swift's surprising partnership with Ice Spice was a publicity stunt to cover for Swift's new beau's recent controversies.

In a recent interview, Healy expressed his real sentiments about the issue at hand.

Matty Healy and His Podcast Statements

For those who do not know the context of Matty Healy's statements, The 1975 vocalist infamously threw some racist comments about Ice Spice in an appearance at the Adam Friedland Show.

"She's like a rapper from the Spice Girls... Inuit Spice Girl. Just this chubby Chinese lady," the trio discussed in the episode, with Healy taking the lead," he said on the podcast episode.

This went viral on social media, with fans and netizens slamming the problematic statements he threw.

Shortly after, Healy doubled down on his comments against the young rapper, showing how apologetic he is.

"I just feel a bit bad, and I'm kind of a bit sorry if I've offended you. Ice Spice, I'm sorry," Healy said in his Auckland, New Zealand show. "It's not because I'm annoyed that me joking got misconstrued. It's because I don't want Ice Spice to think I'm a dick. I love you, Ice Spice. I'm so sorry.

Billboard noted that at this point of the show, Healy was already toward half of a bottle of wine.

Matty Healy Dismissed How Problematic His Statements Were

Speaking to The New Yorker, Healy said that at the time the statements were thrown, he was baiting his fans for reactions a "little bit."

"But it doesn't actually matter. Nobody is sitting there at night slumped at their computer, and their boyfriend comes over and goes, 'What's wrong, darling?' and they go, 'It's just this thing with Matty Healy.' That doesn't happen," he furthered.

According to Healy, if one gets offended by his statements, they're either "lying" that they're hurt or a "bit mental" for being hurt.
