Ice Spice is one of the rising stars in the hip-hop scene that everyone has an eye out for-the "Boy's a Liar" rapper has seen some major numbers and power moves come her way.

Is that why when XXL magazine asked her to be on the cover of their highly anticipated annual Freshman class issue, she turned it down?

According to reports, Spice rejected to be on the cover of XXL's Freshman Class of 2023 cover due to a conflict with her schedule, citing that she has a lot of concerts, music festivals, and work to do.

Spice's full schedule can be attributed to her rise to fame thanks to her song going viral on social media; since then, artists have been reaching out to her to rope her in for collab songs.

Among the artists who have already managed to get the rapper on their tracks are Taylor Swift for the new version of her song "Karma," and Nicki Minaj for "Princess Diana." These new collabs also brought in billions of streams on Spotify.

XXL Freshman Class 2023

This year's XXL Freshman class includes Tia Corine, 2Rare, Finesse2tymes, DC The Don, Rob49, Luh Tyler, Fridayy, GloRilla, Lola Brooke, Sleazy World Go, Real Boston Richey, and Central Cee.

According to reports, the magazine brings together some of the rising stars in the rap and hip-hop scene for one big family picture to commemorate their career milestones.

Narrowing down over 80 artists this year to 12, these talents have not only been the cream that has risen to the top, but serve as a representation of the current pulse of this year's sound: inimitable, eclectic, vibe-y, nostalgic and damn good," XXL wrote about this year's roster.

Ice Spice, XXL Beef?

Obviously, Spice is one of the artists that has made huge waves in the music scene, and her absence is a little suspicious for some.

In fact, following TMZ's report as to why the rapper declined to be on the cover, XXL's editor-in-chief Vanessa Satten tweeted, "Not really the whole story or given excuse but okay."

In a similar post by RapTV, Satten tweeted "lol."

It seems like there is some beef going on between the magazine and Spice, although neither has commented on the issue.
