Elvis Presley has recently been likened to someone like R. Kelly.

A new documentary featuring interviews with 19 of Elvis's former girlfriends has put forward some troubling questions about the legacy of the King of Rock'n'roll.

Despite still having a strong affection for the late singer, some of his ex-lovers were only teenage girls when they began dating him.

Alanna Nash, an American author who has written books about the star, expresses her view of why we continue to admire Elvis Presley: "We love him so much that we don't want to see his fatal flaws."

She compares him with R Kelly, another American singer currently in prison for child sex abuse offenses. Alanna suggests: "In this day and age, he'd be sharing a cell with R. Kelly."

When Elvis was only 24 years old, he met the 14-year-old Priscilla Beaulieu in Germany back in 1959.

Little did they know that their relationship would soon culminate into marriage in 1967.

Per The Mirror, Carrie Grant, a military friend who oversaw entertainment at a club for service families, said, "Who knew she was 14? And nobody cared because she was that beautiful."

"Her parents were so sold on Elvis they didn't give a damn. If I'd have been the parents I'd have been raising hell. He liked young girls because he can control them."

The public's reaction to a 22-year-old celebrity Jerry Lee Lewis's marriage to his 13-year-old cousin became a cautionary tale for Elvis and the people around him.

David Stanley, Elvis' stepbrother, was no stranger to the risks of bad press, remarking on the relationship with Priscilla: "[Elvis' dad] and the guys were really concerned they had a Jerry Lee Lewis situation going on..."

This comes after Priscilla Presley's upcoming biopic, based on her famous memoir "Elvis and Me," has come under fire from her late husband's estate with officials alleging it to be nothing but a mere "money grab," according to TMZ.

What Did R. Kelly Do?

Testimonies at the federal sex crimes trial of R. Kelly in 2021 had revealed that he had a strict and strange set of rules for his alleged victims, from choosing what they wore to dictating when they took bathroom breaks.

The jury was presented with a handwritten list detailing some of the rules imposed by the "Laundromat" rapper on a teenager who lived with him.

The content of the list, combined with accounts from both accusers and those close to him, reveals just how powerful his grip over sexual partners was. Such obsessive control was exercised over these individuals.

The jury was presented with evidence that R. Kelly restricted his accusers' freedom, compelling them to abide by a set of rules to remain in his presence.

Reports indicated that he demanded they participate in sexual activities with others and follow strict orders about how they must greet him.

Prosecutors and the accusers of R. Kelly stated that any female with an intimate relationship with him was forbidden to even make eye contact with other males. Additionally, they were not allowed to communicate with them either.
