Happy birthday, 50 Cent!

50 Cent Bio

Curtis James Jackson III (known professionally as 50 cent) was born on July 6, 1975 in Queens, New York. 50 Cent was raised, though, in Southside Jamaica in Queens, New York City. 50 Cent was raised in a broken family. His mother was a hustler, who passed away when the then-aspiring rapper was only eight. 50 Cent's father left him not too long thereafter, hence, he had his grandmother become his parent.

50 Cent soon followed the example of his mother, and started hustling. However, he didn't escape the law when he repeatedly got arrested for what he was doing in 1994, as per All Music. At this time, 50 Cent decided to bid his hustling livelihood goodbye in exchange for pursuing a career in hip hop music.

How 50 Cent Started His Music Career

50 Cent's debut in the music industry happened when he met Run D-M-C's Jam Master Jay in 1996. Master Jay gave 50 Cent a tape of beats, and requested that he rapped on them. After having been impressed with 50 cent's talent, Master Jay gave the go-signal to sign on 50 Cent to his record label, JMJ. In a twist of event, 50 Cent decided to pursue a record deal with a different label moving forward called, Trackmasters (record label that produced iconic musicians such as Jay-Z and Nas).

50 Cent was signed on to Trackmasters' Columbia records, and started to complete his debut album called, "Power of the Dollar."
