Recent revelations that Katy Perry may not be returning to "America Idol" have sent shockwaves through the show's fanbase.

After she shared a music video for a new artist, speculation mounted as to her career plans leading up to the judge hinting at some "sad" news.

The highly-anticipated seventh season of "American Idol" on ABC has just been announced, and it will feature Katy, 38. Joining her as fellow judges are Luke Bryan, 47, and Lionel Richie, 74.

Previously, there had been a call for the reality competition series to remove Katy from her judging role.

The return of Katy for another season of "American Idol" was met with plenty of criticism from fans.

As reported by The Sun, it didn't take long for frustrated viewers to take to Twitter to express their displeasure over her comments, wardrobe choices, and attitude.

A disappointed Idol fan posted to Twitter: "No enthusiasm here... just crickets!"

Another responded with a direct inquiry: "Is this really what we get?" A third voice chimed in declaring, "Heck no!"

The one voice of defeat spoke out and declared, "We lost."

In response, another individual chimed in saying, "Not one fan of Katy Perry was hoping for her to make her return."

Recently, the reactions of some of Katy's followers have been less than positive concerning certain choices she has made about her career.

The desire for the "Teenage Dream" hitmaker to release her music was made abundantly clear this week when the she promoted another artist's song, leading fans to beg the star for a response.

This year, the pop singer has had the honor of welcoming her daughter Daisy into the world with Hollywood actor Orlando Bloom.

In addition to this delightful occasion, she has also devoted her time to creating a line of shoes and co-founding De Soi, a non-alcoholic sparkling drink company.

Meanwhile, in response to some fans who had been overly critical of Katy, Luke Bryan stepped in last month to defend his co-star on "American Idol". When asked about it, he quickly jumped to her defense.

"Katy Perry's been dealing with stuff like that her whole career. I mean we're judging kids that people at home fall in love with... We're not gonna bat a thousand as judges."

According to him, entertainers are often hardened to any sort of criticism that could potentially come their way.

This was certainly the case with Katy Perry during American Idol's 21st season, as she was much maligned for her supposed "mom-shaming" and haughty attitude toward some of the contestants.
