Taylor Swift just ended her massively successful "The Eras" tour, and fans are still reeling from the excitement of all the festivities and announcements.

One of the ways they have decided to cope with the "post-concert depression" is to stream her songs all over again, and one particular song became the subject of their new project: "Cruel Summer."

Swift's fans are determined to have the song atop the Billboard Hot 100, as well as several other music charts. According to Pop Base on X (formerly known as Twitter), they have succeeded in making the song peak at No. 1 on the US Spotify chart, though, so they are definitely making some progress.

Furthermore, "Cruel Summer" is gunning for the No. 1 spot on the Billboard Hot 100, too. According to reports, the 2019 song is just five points behind the top song and is currently placed third.

Taylor Swift: Queen of Summer?

Aside from "Cruel Summer," another Swift song is most commonly played during the summer season: "August."

However, there is something special about the song that sets it apart from Swift's "Folklore" favorite.

"Cruel Summer" was released back in 2019 as a b-side track from her "Lover" album. It was not released as a single, much to fans' dismay, however, there are rumors that the "Anti-Hero" singer might release a music video for the song soon.

Another reason why fans have latched on to the song is, of course, because of the mystery muse.

"This song is one that I wrote about the feeling of a summer romance, and how often times a summer romance can be layered with all these feelings of, like, pining away and sometimes even secrecy," Swift said about the song during the "Lover" album release party.

"It deals with the idea of being in a relationship where there's some element of desperation and pain in it, where you're yearning for something that you don't quite have yet, it's just right there, and you just, like, can't reach it. So, this has some of my favorite lyrics on it."

While Swift has never really hinted or revealed any clues as to who she wrote the song about, many guess that it might be dedicated to either Swift's ex-boyfriend Joe Alwyn or even Karlie Kloss.

Taylor Swift's 'Cruel Summer'

According to reports, with the song becoming a sensational hit among fans, and even climbing the charts, "Cruel Summer" might become an annual hit.

For now, no one knows if it really will be an annual hit or the official summer song each year, but if there is one thing Swift's fans are determined to do, it is to bring the singer on the top.
