In a funny anecdote, Dolly Parton recently talked about why she said "no" when the Princess of Wales invited her for tea.

The 77-year-old country singer shared that she was in London then and had received the special request from Kate Middleton.

The famous singer opened up about her admiration for the city of London and revealed she had an opportunity to visit Buckingham Palace, yet sadly had to turn it down.

During an episode on BBC Radio 2, per Metro UK, she said: "I was invited to have tea with Kate, but I couldn't make it."

The "Jolene" hitmaker said, "I thought it was very sweet and nice of her to invite me, and one of these days, I'm going to get to do that - that would be great."

In classic Dolly Parton fashion, she teased the reason for rejecting Kate's invitation.

She quipped, "But she wasn't going to promote my rock album, so I had to say no."

Dolly expressed sorrow at being unable to explore more of the city during her tour but acknowledged there seemed to be little time for sightseeing.

Dolly Parton's latest revelation comes after her declaration that she would rather "drop dead" in the middle of a performance than end her singing career. Such a bold statement certainly astonished many people.

With almost sixty years of experience in the music business, Dolly Parton has yet to intend to leave her craft anytime soon.

Despite reaching an impressive milestone in her career, the legendary singer-songwriter shows no sign of slowing down.

Speaking on "Greatest Hits Radio," "I would never retire. I would hopefully drop dead in the middle of a song on stage someday - and hopefully one I've written - but that's how I hope to go."

"I don't have much of a choice in that, but in the meantime, I'm going to make hay while the sun shines."

The prolific singer-songwriter has amassed an impressive repertoire of 3,000 songs, including the hit like "I Will Always Love You."

Although she is still keen to perform, her engagements have become more sporadic.

Dolly noted: "I don't tour any longer, but I intend to accept certain gigs such as weekend events or festivals."

Rather than being on the go all the time, Dolly expressed her desire to expand her work in television and film instead.
