The wife of Deryck Whibley - the founder of Sum 41 - revealed her husband had been admitted to hospital with pneumonia, and there was a possibility of heart failure.

On Friday, Ariana Cooper Whibley provided a glimpse into her husband's health crisis by posting an image of Sum 41 lead singer, Deryck Whibley, being loaded into an ambulance.

The 32-year-old wrote on Instagram, "Deryck and I were supposed to be in Chicago right now, celebrating our eighth wedding anniversary, but the universe had a different plan for us."

She added, "We spent the entire night in the ER and will now be spending the next few days here in the hospital as he fights pneumonia."

"The scariest part is that there is a lot of strain on his heart, and they are telling us that there is a possibility of heart failure."

Ariana and her husband are parents to two young children: their son Lydon Idby, aged 3, and their daughter Quentin Arlo, who is just six months old.

Despite not being their first time in a hospital situation due to illness, Ariana found it difficult seeing her husband, 43, hooked up to wires and IVs again.

Ariana shared a picture to her social media of her and the rocker holding hands while he was hospitalized. She captioned it with a note expressing his strength but admitting that the situation was still challenging.

Deryck Whibley was struck down with devastating news in April 2014.

He collapsed on the kitchen floor of his home, having suffered from liver and kidney failure. He was then placed into a coma for a week; during this time, his body detoxified from alcohol, which drove him to rebuild his life as a sober individual.

In an interview with Vice, one year later, it was made clear by this rocker that his health issues manifested at a crucial juncture in his life.

He said during that time, "I'm glad it happened now and not when I'm like, 50, because my body wouldn't have been able to handle it."

"But it's unfortunate that it had to even come to that. However, now I'm feeling better than I've ever felt. I'm healthier. I'm in the best shape of my life."

After his hospital stay and Ariana dealing with depression and a suicide attempt, they embarked on their sobriety journeys together.

A statement released in May revealed that the renowned band Sum 41, consisting of members Deryck Whibley, Dave Baksh, Jason McCaslin, Tom Thacker, and Frank Zummo, had decided to part ways after 27 years together.
