Matty Healy is one controversial artist. Through the years, he has made some pretty disturbing, unbelievable headlines, that had The 1975 fans scratching their heads.

Earlier this year, Matty Healy was again in the headlines, not just because of his brief relationship with Taylor Swift, but also because of his racist remarks against Ice Spice.

Ice Spice, Matty Healy Issue

In February 2023, Matty Healy appeared on The Adam Friedland Show and spurred some pretty controversial remarks, mocking Ice Spice.

Healy called Ice Spice a "chubby Chinese lady," alongside laughing with the other hosts as they mocked Ice Spice's ethnicity.

Ice Spice, a The 1975 fan, was mum on the issue. Meanwhile, Matty Healy suffered a huge backlash from people on the internet, egging him on his problematic behavior.

He has since apologized to Ice Spice on his New Zealand show.

"Sorry if I've offended you. Ice Spice, I'm sorry. It's not because I'm annoyed that me joking got misconstrued, it's 'cause I don't want Ice Spice to think that I'm a dick," he told the crowd, as quoted by People Magazine. "I love you Ice Spice.... It's OK for me to be like, a trickster or whatever, but I don't want to be perceived as mean-hearted."

But despite the rather half-hearted apology, fans weren't convinced.

In a The New Yorker article, Healy addressed that sometimes, he purposely baits his fans to elicit a reaction.

"But it doesn't actually matter. Nobody is sitting there at night slumped at their computer, and their boyfriend comes over and goes, 'What's wrong, darling?' and they go, 'It's just this thing with Matty Healy.' That doesn't happen," Healy added.

Did Matty Healy Apologize to Ice Spice?

In an interview with Variety, Ice Spice revealed whether The 1975 vocalist had apologized to her already.

"When I had heard that little podcast or whatever, I was so confused. Because I heard 'chubby Chinese lady' or some shit like that, and I'm like, 'Huh? What does that even mean?' First of all, I'm thick. What do you mean Chinese? What? But then they apologized or whatever. And the whole time, I didn't really care," she admitted. "But that's funny because I saw him at the Jean Paul Gaultier party a couple days ago, and he was like, 'Hey, you OK?' and I'm like, 'Of course.' He apologized to me a bunch of times. We're good."
