SZA might be a successful and thriving artist in the field of R&B music, but that didn't mean she only listened solely to the genre as she recently praised and defended two of the most iconic rock bands in the world.

In an interview with Variety as she's named as the "Hitmaker of the Year" for 2023, the musician was asked about the music that she's been listening to lately.

Her response was surprising to say the least as she said: "The other day, you know what I pulled up? Creed, Nickelback, Train 'Drops of Jupiter,' just a whole bunch of that."

Later on, the interviewer appeared to be laughing at the matter, to which SZA responded with: "I know!... You know what's crazy? Do white people hate Creed and Nickelback?"

SZA later noted that Black people love the two bands so much because they "rock" and she's confused why people have been hating on them.

"Why are you hating on it? Have you ever felt more inspired and uplifted in your life? I'm in the car and I'm blasting 'Higher,' I feel like it's a gospel song, the vocals are going crazy and it's also somehow slightly romantic, it just feels so fun. (via Consequence)

In an interview with People Magazine in September 2023, Chad Kroeger addressed the issue, saying there were people who walked up to him and told him that they hated his band's music.

Regarding his feelings, the singer said he's "over it" and wanted fans to watch their documentary "Nickelback: Hate to Love" to change the perspective of the public about them.
