Ed Sheeran has kept fans guessing when it comes to that little ditty called "Don't." In a recent chat with Howard Stern, Ed gave up just enough information for fans to start to put the mystery together pretty solidly. Sometimes the only thing better than a great set of lyrics is being able to read between the lines and figure out who the artist is singing about, right?

Music Times can confirm that "Don't" was not written about Taylor Swift — in fact, Ed insists that they were always just friends. He did confirm that the song is about another singer that he dated. Back in 2013 the singer had a short-lived fling with Ellie Goulding and she later dated One Direction's Niall Horan. When Howard asked if the other guy in "Don't" refers to "that guy from One Direction" Ed responded by saying, "Well it depends which one you're talking about" — a pretty telling statement, don't you think?

According to Ed, the woman who motivated his lyrics cheated on him with his friend while they were all staying at the same hotel. While the situation was scandalous and Ed claims that a confrontation did occur, he got over the whole thing pretty quickly. It wasn't a love match so it wasn't difficult to cut the woman loose once she cheated on him.

Do you think that "Don't" was written about Ellie Goulding and Niall Horan's hooking up while she was still with Ed? Do you think that Ed Sheeran wants his fans to put the pieces together after leaving them to ponder things for awhile? Tell us your thoughts in the comments below!
