    Last week was the last for musicians to make a statement on the charts for 2013, and at least four albums left a mark during the closing moments of the year. Let's start with the notable accomplishers.
  • Beyoncé's “XO” sampling of the NASA Challenger explosion audio causes controversy

    At the start of Beyoncé's new song "XO," you can hear six seconds of audio saying, "Flight controllers here looking very carefully at the situation. Obviously a major malfunction." This is NASA's former public affairs officer, Steve Nesbitt, at the time of the NASA Challenger Explosion. FOX News is reporting that a statement has been issued about this clip, by June Scobee Rodgers, the widow of Challenger Commander Dick Scobee, who is part of the Challenger Center for Space Science Education.

    DoSomething.org, a social change nonprofit site, has released is list of the most charitable celebrities of 2013. According to the list pop-country crossover star Taylor Swift topped the organization's annual "Top 20 Celebs Gone Good" for the second consecutive year.

    Looking at a performer's sales is one way to judge who's the biggest name in music. Another way is to check out who's been illegally downloaded the most. Data analysts Musicmetric have looked into the latter and concluded that Bruno Mars and Rihanna are the most tormented performers in the world. Where that places them among the most popular is up to you.

    People love buying Beyoncé's new self-titled fifth studio album. Released by total surprise on Friday, Dec. 13, the album has sold over 991,000 copies to date and is looking forward to a third week on top of the Billboard 200. However, for as much as people love buying music, they also love getting it for free, and according to Billboard.biz, "Beyoncé" is one hot illegally downloaded set.

  • 'Beyoncé' set to remain No. 1 on Billboard 200 for second week as new album gets physical release

    Beyoncé is just ruling December; there's no denying that. The "XO" singer released a surprise album last Friday (Dec. 13), and in just three days, the set sold over 617,000 copies and got a No. 1 slot on the Billboard 200. Now, it's looking like Queen Bey is going to do it again.
