The Chainsmokers' "Closer" Makes a Perfect '80s Electro-Pop Ballad
The Chainsmokers is a name everyone has heard of by now. Their hit, "Closer" which features Halsey, stole the number one spot on Billboard's Hot 100 for 12 consecutive weeks. TRONICBOX, a producer, worked on an outstanding '80s ballad version of the hit, and it's like nothing we've heard before.
Billboard reported, "TRONICBOX is a producer who posts incredible '80s ballad covers of modern pop hits. He's got a great one of Justin Bieber's "What Do You Mean," a killer take on Ed Sheeran's "Shape of You," but truly, this "Closer" redo is one of the best things we've heard in a minute."
The Chainsmokers had a productive year and found themselves on Forbes' Highest-Paid Celebrities list. The group broke chart records and raked in $38 million which landed them at number 65 on the list. The Chainsmokers landing so high up on the list, makes a stamp on how successful EDM is becoming.
The Chainsmokers said in an interview with NME how important it is for them to keep it real all the time. They said, "It's about... I don't want to say becoming better people, because that sounds cheesy. Just keeping it real, and understanding that not everyone's on your team. Move forward. Make responsible decisions. Think about what it might look like to a kid who's 10 years old, seeing what we do - how that might impact on the way they listen to our music and enjoy our antics." Antics, indeed. But there's still a pretty long road ahead of them to reach non-asshole status. Best of luck to them both."
Emily Warren, who is a featured vocalist on The Chainsmokers' track "Paris," spoke to Billboard about working with the group. She wanted to share the message that the duo is very hardworking and human. She said, "I think just because they're so normal -- in the sense that they're just nice, grounded dudes -- they say some stuff sometimes as you would in a conversation with your friends that ended up being spun by some parts of the media ...which is really unfair. They're the nicest dudes -- I love them and have nothing bad to say about them.."
