Marina Diamandis, better known by her pop star moniker MARINA, is pivoting out of music and into a new venture: poetry.

The "Primadonna" singer announced in an exclusive interview with Rolling Stone that she will be releasing her debut poetry book, Eat the World, on Oct. 29. She last released music, her album Ancient Dreams in a Modern Land, in 2022.

Eat the World arrives after two years, when Marina initially declared on X, formerly Twitter, that she had "been writing a poetry book this last year."

She described the book as "Spicy, and brutal, and funny, and sad, and kind of like my lyrics, but way more savage [than her songs.]"

"I am exposing a genuine part of myself that maybe isn't as glam and glitzy as I would like to portray," she said of the process of writing the poetry collection.

The Marina and the Diamonds alumna further teased the book on Apr. 2, posting one of her poems on X. The poem, "pain eraser," is a vulnerable telling of Marina's desire to share her thoughts and feelings but her fear of revealing "The things/ I need/To write about" as doing so may "Blow up/my life."

She explained that writing poetry is different from song writing in that she can open up more.

"I'm able to be way more honest and open about things that is just not possible with songwriting," she said.  She contended that writing poetry feels "like there's no rules."

The collection's title, Eat the World, shares its name with one of Marina's poems. The poem, which Marina shared on X, ends with a powerful declaration that highlights Marina's prowess: "I ate the/whole world/and I'll eat it/forever."

Poetry, Marina says, has given her a new sense of freedom, unlike that of her previous musical works:

"Poetry has made me feel free, because it's writing about things that, if I'm quite honest, I would rather people not know."

Marina's fans are equally excited to see her find liberation in her poetry.

Responding to Marina's X post announcing the book, a fan expressed their excitement for the artist, writing: "I'm so happy for you. Seeing that  you feel better about yourself is something indescribable for me." Another posted, "I'm so excited!! and happy to hear that you feel free."

The "Froot" singer clarified that her poetry work has not stopped her from continuing her music career. She noted that she feels "Like this next record's going to be important." She continued to assure that Eat the World is also reflective of that feeling.

The "Bubblegum Bitch" songstress revealed that she has been writing the LP for six months. She hasn't reached the production stage yet and is letting herself "Enjoy the process" of creating the record. Marina elaborated that she doesn't "have any timeline yet" but would like to release new music "sooner rather than later."

Eat the World releases on Oct. 29, published by Penguin Random House.
