Jojo Siwa came under fire for declaring her intention to establish a brand-new musical genre known as "gay pop."

Netizens wanted her to know that this is no longer a genre that can be created -- as it long been existing.

For her to say that she wants to create this so-called genre allegedly showed her ignorance.

Jojo Siwa's "Gay Pop"

The 20-year-old Dance Moms graduate, who came out as a member of the LGBTQ+ community in January 2021, made the remark in conversation about her latest sensual music video, "Karma," which features her having a lesbian romance.

'When I first signed with Columbia, I said I wanted to start a new genre of music,' she told Billboard on Saturday. 'They said, "What do you mean?", and I said, "It's called 'gay pop'. It's like K-pop but it's gay pop."'

Netizens Claim Jojo Siwa is "Disrespectful" and "Dismissive"

Online commenters quickly expressed their disapproval, claiming that a genre of that kind already exists.

One netizen wrote, "That's literally been around for longer than she's been alive."

Another X user wrote, "Jojo siwa saying she wants to create a new genre of music called 'gay pop' is the most ignorant thing on planet earth, like, genuinely so disrespectful and dismissive of every queer person in music who came before her."

One more person just wrote, "She's winning the cringy contest."

Numerous music stars, including Hayley Kiyoko, Dove Cameron, Frank Ocean, RuPaul, Kali Uchis, Ayesha Erotica, David Bowie, Boy George, and Tegan and Sara, were mentioned by certain commentators as having identified as LGBTQ+ over the years.

In all fairness to the star, she is presently in a transition and maturing right in eyes of many.

She said so herself recently, claiming that many people will not agree with the changes happening to her.

Jojo Siwa's Transformation

At the 2024 GLAAD Awards on March 14, Siwa, 20, talked with People about her new song and her "transition" to adulthood.

Siwa announced her upcoming chapter by teasing the music video for her new song, "Karma," on social media.

Fans were treated to glimpses of the star wearing more skimpy attire, such as a sheer cutaway catsuit adorned with crystals.

Siwa stated that people should anticipate hearing from and seeing new material from her that they "have not seen from me before."
