Taylor Swift dropped an update about her upcoming album, The Tortured Poets Department, and Swifties became more convinced it would be about Joe Alwyn and how they almost had it all. Is she regretting how things ended between them?

On Sunday, April 14, Swift posted an update on Instagram regarding the new album, which will be released on April 19. She told Swifties about its pre-order at Target, but the accompanying lyrics scored the public's attention more.

Taylor Swift's Cryptic Lyric Is About Joe Alwyn, Swifties Assume

In the black-and-white Instagram photo, Swift can be seen holding the phantom clear vinyl version of her The Tortured Poets Department.

She also wrote the line, "I wish I could un-recall how we almost had it all."

Fans assumed it came from one of the album's songs, and it led them to think that the line itself was about Alwyn.

The "Bejeweled" singer and Alwyn dated for six years before calling it quits in 2023. She is now dating Travis Kelce, while the actor has been linked with his Brutalist costar Emma Laird.

An insider previously spoke about Alwyn's reaction to the album, telling the Daily Mail that The Last Letter from Your Lover star "has been respectful."

"It's undeniable that the name of her upcoming album is in reference to Joe's WhatsApp group chat," the source added. "Taylor knocked him for the name of this when they were together. She didn't want people to think that it had anything to do with her, so when he spoke out about it, she was, of course, bothered."

Signs Taylor Swift's "The Tortured Poets Department" Will Be About Joe Alwyn

Over the past months since Swift announced The Tortured Poets Department, fans have been speculating that her 11th studio album would be her "last letter" to Alwyn.

The song title reportedly referenced the actor's "Tortured Man Club" group chat. Suspicion intensified when Swift released the track list, which included the song "So Long, London."

Alwyn is reportedly the "London Boy."

"I don't talk about my personal life in great detail. I write about it in my songs, and I feel like you can share enough about your life in your music to let people know what you're going through," Swift told Glamour in 2012.
