Kate Middleton finally made it out the door for a public appearance! She and Prince William were on hand at Buckingham Palace today to help Queen Elizabeth greet the president of Singapore, Tony Tan Keng Yam. Middleton looked extremely thin in a plaid Alexander McQueen coat dress, and sources say this is hopefully the start of the duchess being able to resume some of her regular duties. Today was actually her first public sighting since Aug. 7, and it is clear from the photos that Middleton is still a little bit unwell.

The palace also made an official statement Monday, Oct. 20, confirming that Middleton and her husband are expecting a baby in April — but not twins. It is believed Middleton is now creeping into her second trimester, so hopefully she will shake off the severe morning sickness that seems to have completely enveloped the last two months of her life.

There has been some speculation that Middleton might stay out of sight a bit more during this pregnancy than she did while carrying Prince George. One of the main reasons for that is the fact she does have her son at home to care for and, while the royals have a nanny or two, Middleton is known to be a hands-on mother.

What are your thoughts on Middleton's appearance today? Did she still look too ill to be dressed up and paraded around, or do you think maybe she is anxious to do things that are normal once again? There have been rumors that Middleton already knows she is expecting a girl. Do you think this notion is about as certain as the rumor of twins was? Tell us your thoughts in the comments below.
