Puddles the clown recently did a cover of Lorde's well-received song "Royals" for a Halloween treat. It's already been a huge sensation virally, but it's worth watching multiple times.

Scott Bradlee from Postmodern Jukebox fame, which set up the video for the cover, said, "For the uninitiated: Puddles is a 7 foot tall sad clown with a voice like Tom Jones."

It's true, his voice has an intense spooky quality to it, but he is an extremely talented vocalist. The understated performance features the towering clown accompanied by his two background singers, who don't really add a whole lot, unfortunately, and the musicians with what looks like an old suitcase painted to promote the clown's website, Puddles Pity Party.

It's really unbelievable the ways people can create wildly popular YouTube videos. Who knew taking on the persona of a sad giant clown would be the successful approach for redoing one of the most well-received songs on the charts today. Well he did it, and the video has had more than 3 million views.

Apparently this cover might have been even better than the original, according to You Tube comments:

Cataldo Chiwawa wrote on the site: "Wow, I don't really know how to react here. I think Lorde's song is very good and I also think she is one of very very few interesting new artists. But this cover is almost better than the original, which is unexpected and also a bit embarrassing. This guy Puddles is something else and I want to know more about him!"
