Los Angeles natives Warpaint have released a new song called "Biggy" off of their upcoming self-titled record due out Jan. 21 via Rough Trade Records. The band has made a steady rise in popularity since its debut record The Fool in 2010.
The band introduced a new drummer Stella Mozgawa After actress and musician Shannyn Sossamon decided to part ways with the group. Mozgawa's addition has made a huge difference in the vibe and progress of the band's sound and synergy.
"It's not that we didn't love the other people that we've played with," said singer Emily Kokal in her recent interview with Dazed and Confused, "but it just didn't feel like that right personality, the right feel, the right gender - just kidding!" She laughed, making the obvious nudge toward the all-girl ensemble. "There's two sides to it," she said. "It can be really empowering, and then sometimes people just use it as a novelty when they're writing about the band."
Warpaint was recorded at Conor Oberst's Five Star Studios in LA and in Westbourne Park, London, with Flood, the highly regarded producer whose records include Nick Cave's From Her to Eternity (1984), The Smashing Pumpkins' Mellon Collie and the Infinite Sadness (1995) and PJ Harvey's Let England Shake (2011).
