Back in July, August Alsina first shared his intentions to release a new album. Now, the project, titled This Thing Called Life, has a December release date.

During an interview with Power 105’s the Breakfast Club, Alsina revealed that the album will drop on Dec. 11. He followed the announcement with a trailer for the project. In the trailer, the 23-year-old deals with some pretty heavy thoughts: life in general, personal ambitions and police brutality, among others.

The minute and a half long clip ends with footage from a performance, a snippet of new music and a glimpse at the album’s artwork.

In October, the “No Love” singer released a new single titled “Song Cry.” The song, which finds Alsina reflecting on darker times, namely dealing with fame and coping with his brother's death, has apparently caused some friction among his family members. While talking with the Breakfast Club, he opened up about his familial issues, including a screenshot he shared on Instagram. Elsewhere, he touched on some of his recent health scares.

Fans have been patiently awaiting Alsina’s sophomore release for some time now, partly due to touring and partly due to the fact that he's had a few medical issues. This summer, the "I Luv This Sh*t" singer revealed that he has a disease called Keratoconus, which caused blindness in his left eye and loss of vision in his right. He underwent a surgery that would prevent his vision from getting worse. Prior to that, he fell into a coma after collapsing on stage during a New York performance.

Nonetheless, it seems as though his new album will be worth the wait. In September, Alsina shared Instagram videos of DJ Khaled praising his new album and comparing it to classics.

“The structure’s unbelievable, man. Not lying to you, it’s on my mama,” Khaled said of Alsina's sophomore release. “I like the way you sequenced the album. I love the music. The only time I’ve ever heard albums like that was Dr. Dre’s Chronic or NasIllmatic.”

He previously released a single titled "Why I Do It" featuring Lil Wayne.
