Dark is getting a Season 2. Netflix announced the renewal of the German original series in a recent press release.

Netflix has officially ordered a second season for the mystery drama. In a press statement, Kelly Luegenbiehl, vice president of International Originals for Netflix, said that Dark is unlike anything everyone has seen in shows before. The family drama, with a supernatural twist, has captivated not only local viewers but also viewers from other parts of the world, including Brazil, United States, Italy, Turkey, France, and Spain, to mention a few.

Its unique and tense storytelling, coupled with its gripping plot, captivated viewers. Some even likened it to The Duffer Brothers' hit-series Stranger Things. Dark immediately grabbed viewers' attention not soon after its premiere on Netflix on Dec. 1.

It is also worthy to mention that the series has a score of 8.8 from IMDB and 88 percent from Rotten Tomatoes. It is for these reasons that the streaming service decided to give the green light for Dark Season 2.

"DARK is a testament that great storytelling transcends geography. We're excited that our members around the globe are captivated by the mysterious world of Winden, and will now be able to continue to see how the story unfolds," Luegenbiehl said in a statement posted on Netflix's official website.

Co-showrunners Jantje Friese and Baran bo Odar have since responded to the renewal with enthusiasm and gratitude. The series creators expressed their excitement to continue the story in Dark Season 2. The showrunners teased that there are plenty of surprises in store for fans in the second installment.

"We are overwhelmed by the response to DARK and are thrilled that our story has been a success with a global audience. Viewers have been captivated by the secrets of our protagonists and have taken delight in unravelling the various puzzles that the story presents. To know that we will now embark on our next journey is, for us showrunners, a dream come true," Friese and Odar said in the same press release.

Meanwhile, producer Quirin Berg expressed his gratitude to Netflix for their quick turnaround on the renewal. He also thanked the viewers who made the renewal possible and to the actors and the production team, who have put a lot of energy into making the series internationally captivating. Berg expressed his excitement to continue the story in Dark Season 2.

Netflix has yet to announce the release date for Dark Season 2.
