Although Nirvana was known to take songwriting and performing seriously, they also learned to break character sometimes, especially when they needed to prank another iconic band, as revealed by one of their staff members.

In an interview with American Songwriter, former soundman Craig Montgomery shared a hilarious moment about how the rock band trolled The Ramones and Black Francis of Pixies.

Recalling the story, the man said they were in Pukkelpop in Belgium to perform at a festival. He remembered that they all had fun as they still had time to hang out all day after playing their set.

They decided to grab food, drink beer, and hang out with other people from different bands and crews to enjoy the moment.

When Montgomery got drunk with frontman Kurt Cobain, they went into the photo pit in front of the stage when Black Francis was playing.

Since he had a camera with him at the time, the late singer grabbed the camera and started taking pictures even if it was still hanging on his neck.

They were big fans of Black Francis and The Ramones, that's why they're excited to be there.

The two later pulled off a harmless prank backstage by switching placards.

"Black Francis was just traveling with, like, two people. But the Ramones had a big touring party band and crew. And in catering, they had these tables set up for each group with placards on them," he recalled. (via Q104.3 iHeart)

The pair later switched placards, so the other band had a giant table for 20 people while the other had a small table for two.

"Somebody probably figured that out before too long, but that was a funny prank," he concluded.

It was not the only moment where Cobain pulled off a prank as he also trolled the public when Nirvana appeared at the Reading Festival for the second time.

Since they were returning to the famed music festival, there was "a lot of hype and external pressure about that show."

Fans were shocked to see the late singer do a wheelchair stunt with English music journalist Everett True.

Cobain sat and arrived in a wheelchair to respond to many speculations about whether the band would be able to perform and his health woes.
