Shania Twain revealed the heartbreaking story behind why she was out of the limelight for quite some time in her interview with Chris Wallace for his new show 'Who's Talking To Chris Wallace?"

In 2004, the country singer was diagnosed with Lyme disease, after she was bit by a tick while she was horseback riding.

"My symptoms were quite scary because before I was diagnosed, I was on stage very dizzy," she shared in her documentary "Not Just A Girl," released earlier this year.

She further explained that the disease caused her to lose her balance and have quick blackouts.

End Of A Career?

Due to the difficulties with performing and developing dysphonia, Twain was terrified that her career as a musician and performer was coming to an end.

"It was an unreasonable amount of work and pressure to sustain as a recording artist any longer," she explained. So I could do little one-off things, but with so much work behind it, I thought, no, I could never be a genuine recording artist anymore."

"I would have had to stop my singing career, so I'm like, 'Oh, of course, I'll try this,'" she said

According to reports, the 57-year-old went through multiple surgeries to  "stabilize the weakness in her vocal cord function," she explained. While she was able to get her voice back, it was no longer the same.

And while she was grappling with the idea that she may no longer continue her career, she was facing another challenge-her marriage.

'Still The One' No More

Twain met her husband Robert Lange in 1993 during Nashville's Fan Fair, and tied the knot the following year. Her hit song "Still The One" was co-written by Lange, which ironically was about their marriage that people claimed would not last.

The lyrics reads: "They said, 'I bet they'll never make it' / But just look at us holding on / We're still together, still going strong."

In her interview with Wallace, Twain revealed how she found out about her husband's affair. It was through her current husband, Frédéric Thiébaud, who also happened to be the husband of the best friend with whom her Lange was having an affair with.

It has been a long time since then, and she is now moving forward with her life, getting back to making music and performing. "I'm getting to the bottom of how to get my voice back again and I'm feeling empowered. I'm remarried. My husband is an incredible support," she said.

Her new album "Waking Up Dreaming" is expected to be released soon, while the title track was released on Sept. 23.
