Avril Lavigne celebrated her 38th birthday, and no one was more excited to greet her than Mod Sun, who wrote a long open letter dedicated to the "Girlfriend' singer.

The punk rock musician took to Instagram to greet Lavigne and express his love for her. "When I close my eyes it's you I see. You're the reason why my heart still beats," he began.

The post included two pictures of the engaged couple. The first one shows them kissing and the second one shows them in matching pink ensembles as Sun gives Lavigne a kiss on her forehead.

"My love is yours eternally. I live inside each memory. Your eyes light up the darkest night. Your kiss inspires the words I write," he confessed.

"Your touch is all I need in life. Someday soon you'll be my wife. You changed the world Avril never forget."

Engaged

Sun, whose real name is Derek Ryan Smith, got engaged last March, People Magazine reports. They first met in 2020, and were instantly smitten with each other.

"I knew we had a very strong unstoppable connection from the first week of writing and working together in the studio. Immediately," Lavigne revealed to People Magazine.

"He made every day better. It was like I had known him forever. As time went on, things kept getting better, and it felt incredibly natural."

Clearly, the attraction was mutual as the 35-year-old continued, "You are that mother f**king princess. You make me better I must confess."

"I'd whisper "I love you" with my last breath. There's so many words I wanna say, To my stunningly gorgeous fiancé, I'll leave it at this til we runaway... Baby, I wish you a happy birthday. [sic]"

'A Break From Men'

Lavigne revealed that she was, in fact, not looking for love when she met Sun. "I was like, 'I need a break from men.' Then two days later that all went out the window!"

Despite her apprehensions of pursuing a relationship, Lavigne added that it all fell into place as soon as they started dating, adding that she "just followed [her] heart."

What began as a music writing session at the studio became a beautiful love story, "We just clicked. I was like, 'Should you be doing this?' It was fun and exciting, and I decided, 'F**kit. Life's short.' I'm a Libra. I love love."

According to her, she and Sun bonded over music-specifically while she recorded "Love Sux," a breakup album.

"Love Sux' is Lavigne's seventh studio album, which was released in February this year. It succeeded "Head Above Water," released in 2019, and boasts 12 tracks including the singles "Bite Me" and "Love It When You Hate Me"
