"The Masked Singer" has unveiled many of music's greatest names - including Dionne Warwick, Chaka Khan, Gladys Knight, and Pati Labelle, among many others.

Now, it would seem like the beloved music competition show has unmasked yet another music icon.

The Mermaid, who donned a chromatic scaly costume, had audiences and the judges alike scrambling to determine who she was.

Singing "Any Dream Will Do" from Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat" on Andrew Lloyd Webber Night, the Mermaid failed to swim through the deep trenches as the judges unanimously voted her to go home, favoring Robo Girl on the Battle Royale.

After her grand unmasking, audiences, including the star-studded panel of judges including Ken Jeong, Robin Thicke, Nicole Scherzinger, and Jenny McCarthy, were taken aback because of the music icon in front of their very eyes.

Masked behind the scaly outfit is none other than one of the greatest voices in disco, Gloria Gaynor.

Speaking to People Magazine, Gaynor admitted her reasons why she wanted to be in the show.

"I just wanted to see how recognizable my voice is to the general public. I just [liked] the idea of people trying to guess my voice," she said.

The judges, before being taken aback by the icon's presence, actually figured out her identity beforehand. They have managed to rule out tough contenders like Cher, Gloria Estefan, and even Roberta Flack, among other choices. (via Entertainment Weekly)

Clues were given out prior, and it referenced "a horrible accident," her being a "big" legend, and being "simply the best."

With the intention of being able to have people guess her voice, Gaynor wondered what tipped the judges off.

"I don't know if it was my voice and how much it was clued and how much it was combined elements that helped them to recognize who I am," she confessed.

Talking more about the experience, the disco icon even commented on her experience sitting on the big clamshell donning the "fabulous" purple chrome costume.

"I loved that outfit. I thought it was awesome," she complimented despite admitting that she had a hard time singing normally because she was sitting. But despite this, Gaynor considered the performance "a very good experience."

"The Masked Singer" airs every Wednesday at 8 p.m. ET on Fox Channel.
