Born Peter Lawrence Buck on Dec. 6, 1956, in Berkeley, California, Buck was the son of Peter and Violet Buck.

Although he was born in Berkeley, Buck was not actually raised there. His family switched homes in Los Angeles, and San Francisco, before they finally moved to Roswell, Georgia, in Atlanta.

As he was juggling studying and working on Wuxtry Records Store, he went on to meet his future bandmate Michael Stipe, and his future manager, Bertis Downs.

In the early 90s, Buck migrated to the Pacific Northwest and was in between Portland, Oregon, and Seattle, Washington.

He now lives in Todos Santos, Baja California Sur, Mexico. As for his family, he was once married to Barrie Buck, whom he later on divorced. He also married Stephanie Dorgan, which he also divorced. He had twins with Dorgan, Zelda, and Zoe.

In 2013, he married his third wife, Chloe Johnson.
