It was reported that Broadway titan Andrew Lloyd Webber would be skipping out on the highly-anticipated "Bad Cinderella" opening night.

The 74-year-old composer has had health bouts before, but this time, the reason why he would be unable to attend the opening night for his new show is that his son has been critically ill.

Andrew Lloyd Webber Son Gastric Cancer

According to Playbill, the award-winning composer and musician has announced that he would be missing out on the "Bad Cinderella" opening night because he would be taking the time to accompany his son, Nicholas Lloyd Webber, on his bedside as his health was already declining.

The Grammy-nominated musician Nicholas has been battling gastric cancer for the past 18 months. In a statement, Andrew was devastated to announce the news of his "critically ill" son, who has now been hospitalized.

"I therefore have not been able to attend the recent previews of Bad Cinderella and as things stand, I will not be able to cheer on its wonderful cast, crew and orchestra on Opening Night this Thursday," he said in a statement. "We are all praying that Nick will turn the corner. He is bravely fighting with his indomitable humour, but at the moment my place is with him and the family."

Andrew has provided the music for the already-controversial show on Broadway.

Andrew Lloyd Webber' Bad Cinderella' Opening Night

Per the outlet, "Bad Cinderella" is currently on its last round of previews before it officially opens on Broadway on Mar. 23, 2023, at the Imperial Theatre in Broadway.

The musical is a reimagining of the classic fairytale Cinderella. The show has since received overwhelmingly positive feedback from critics. However, theatergoers have a different reaction to the show.

"I just want to set the record straight: this is really bad show. people are doing everything they can to find positives because they hate to degrade theater and these poor actors that have worked months on it. The truth is, ALW should be embarrassed to have put this show on broadway. You can tell on the actors faces that they're even embarrassed to be performing some parts of the show. really really cringey," someone commented.

Linedy Ganao will be playing Bad Cinderella on Broadway, alternating with Savy Jackson. Grace McLean and Carolee Carmello will be playing The Queen and The Godmother, respectively.
