The first look at the highly-anticipated movie musical "Wicked" has been revealed! Director Jon M. Chu offered the fans of one of the longest-running Broadway musicals a sneak peek of Cynthia Erivo and Ariana Grande's characters while in costume!

'Wicked' Movie: First Look Photos

In an Instagram post by "Wicked" movie director John M. Chu shocked his 250,000-plus fans and all social media by giving everyone two snapshots of Erivo and Grande's characters in action on the set of "Wicked."

"You weren't told the whole story. What happens when you veer off the Yellow Brick Road?" his caption reads.

In the first photo, Erivo's Elphaba is facing back at the camera toward what seemed the attic of an abandoned castle or house. Based on the musical, the shot could be deduced to be moments from the "Defying Gravity" musical performance where Elphaba is fleeing and owning up to her title as the "wicked witch."

Erivo's face could not be seen in the photo but it was clear that the full green-elixir makeup is in full effect as she held tightly on her broom, which would later be the poltergeist host of her levitation spell.

On the other hand, Ariana Grande's Glinda encapsulated her character's light amid the darkness.

Climbing what seemed to be a long and dark staircase leading to the attic where Elphaba is, Grande's Glinda's striking hot pink gown stands out in the dark as she tries to convince her best friend to apologize to the wizard and Michelle Yeoh's Madame Morrible.

Grande looked majestic in her curly blonde locks in the photo, although the photo is zoomed out to capture the full staircase scene, the vibe that both photos radiate is suggesting that the entire movie spectacle would be nothing but grand!

Comments on the other hand are in unison on the budding anticipation and excitement.

"It's been wonderful making magic with you," Erivo commented on Chu's post.

"This looks EXACTLY like how I imagined the Gregory Maguire novels to look like. I love the darkness and the grittiness. You are extraordinary Jon. Thank you for doing this with such care," the Wicked Worldwide fan page said on Chu's other post of the same photo but "brightened."

'Wicked' Movie Cast

Aside from Erivo and Grande playing the two leads, Oscar-winning Michelle Yeoh will be the right hand-woman for Jeff Goldblum's Wizard, Madame Morrible. "Bridgerton" actor Jonathan Bailey is set to play the dashing Fiyero and Ethan Slater will be playing the munchkin Boq. Meanwhile, news on who will play Doctor Dillamond has still been mum.
